Born and raised in Suzhou, China, Zheng moved to America in his high school year. Zheng graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and completed his bachelor’s degree in architecture in 2013. He was inspired by his grandfather, Wenzuo Li, a Chinese architect who devoted all his life designing Classical Chinese Architecture. During his time at Lumenworks, Zheng finds that lighting creates ritual for architecture. Zheng has done various projects in lighting design as a designer, fixture specifier and project manager. He believes that a “good” food-candle minimizes glare and optimizes visual performance.
With Western education and Chinese cultural background on hand, Zheng finds a way to weave in both cultures in his design and pay keen attention to lighting details. He combines an expertise in energy conservation while implementing cutting-edge LED technology with lighting retrofit, lighting customization to brand-new cost-effective lighting network development. Zheng has done lighting design for corporate offices, stadiums, commercial facilities, residential houses, exterior landscapes and special art installations. In his leisure time, Zheng likes to play FPS MMORPG, practice Chinese calligraphy and painting, read mystery novels, watch documentary films, and perform tea ceremony.
